Maebeth Buford Mollberg
Maebeth Buford Mollberg was born in San Marcos, Texas, on March 1, 1925, to Amy Jewell and Chester Bryan Buford. She graduated from Austin High School in 1942, where she was a member of the Austin High School Red Jackets. She passed away in Lockhart Texas, on Sept. 2, 2010.
She enrolled at the University of Texas in 1942, where she planned to major in pharmacology. Ho
wever, she met her future husband, Bernard Mollberg, at UT and married him in San Diego, Calif., after he enlisted in the Navy. While in San Diego, she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” at Consolidated Aircraft, in 1942.
Maebeth completed her degree in elementary education at the University of Houston after attending two other colleges, having three children and living in Texas, California, Michigan and Alabama. After 18 years of teaching first – fourth grades at the Clear Lake Elementary in Clear Lake, Texas, Maebeth retired and moved to Lockhart, Texas, where she served as a volunteer in many organizations and made many valued friends.
Her volunteer service included 10 years of service at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Research Center, where she performed over 800 hours of volunteer service. She also delivered Meals on Wheels in Caldwell County for more than 10 years. She was both secretary and president of the McMahan Women’s Club; both secretary and treasurer of the McMahan Volunteer Fire Department; and secretary, vice president and president of the Caldwell County Retired Teachers Association. Maebeth sat on the board of the Lockhart Public Library and later served as the Library representative to the Central Texas Library System and subsequently sat on the board of that organization. She was also a member of the Irving Club and a Rosie.
Maebeth recently retired from her position on the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church Preschool Board, where she served for six years. She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lockhart for the past 10 years.
She was an active member of the “Lockhart Lovelies,” Lockhart’s Red Hat Society. She loved to laugh and have a good time with her many friends attending the various activities, playing Bunco and Canasta and going to Roy’s for Game Night in McMahan.
Maebeth was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; and her husband of 63 years, Bernard Henry Mollberg. She leaves behind a loving family and many loving friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Mollberg and husband, Terry Daugherty, of Houston; son, Bernard Mollberg and wife, Malissa, of Blanco; daughter, Cindy Gibeaux and husband, Jeff, of Lockhart; five grandchildren: Nicholas Mollberg, of Austin, Alexander Mollberg (USMC), currently stationed in Afghanistan, Laura Mollberg, of Austin, and Olivia and Jacob Gibeaux, of Lockhart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maebeth and her family wish to thank her many loving friends who spent hours with her since she became ill and helped her to make a peaceful transition from this life to the next. Maebeth will be forever remembered with love and sorely missed by all her family and friends.
Visitation was held Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at McCurdy Funeral Home, Lockhart, Texas. Services were held Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church, in Lockhart.
