Maria Valdez Salazar, 95, of Lockhart, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009, in San Antonio. She was born on March 10, 1914, to Severo and Juanita (Zapata) Valdez in Caldwell County.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Juvencio Cuellar; her second husband, Ralph Salazar; seven brothers and four sisters.

ons: Ignacio Cuellar and wife, Linda, of San Marcos, and Juvencio Cuellar, Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; her daughters: Nieves Soto and husband, Armando, of San Antonio, Theresa Valdez, of San Antonio, and Sylvia Cuellar, of Lockhart; her sisters: Josefa Salinas, of Austin, and Benita Mireles and husband, Vicente, of Austin; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Ms. Salazar was a very loving and caring person who loved to cook. She had much joy as a member of the Guadalupanas at the church. Kids and cats were also her enjoyment as she raised her kids by herself.

A Rosary was recited on Monday, June 29, 2009, at 7 p.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart. Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary”s Catholic Church in Lockhart. Interment followed at St. Mary”s Catholic Cemetery.
