On Feb. 25, the Martindale Community Library staff had some phenomenal help from the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Texas State University. The library was awarded a grant to plant Native wildflower seeds through Native American Seeds and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. The seeds are to bring a wildflower ecosystem back to the perimeter of Allen Bates Park in Martindale. Additionally, Native American Seeds awarded the library the first seeds to be disbursed in Texas to create a Texas Horned Lizard Habitat. Texas Horned Lizards (or Horny Toads as many old-timers know them) are an endangered species in Texas. If anyone would like to create their own Texas Horned Lizard ecosystem, Native American Seeds is housed outside of New Braunfels on I-35 and their phone number is 1-800-728-4043.
