Martindale woman dies in accident

A Martindale woman was killed on Saturday night while walking across the road at the intersection of Highway 142 and Highway 80 in Martindale.
Apparently a northbound driver struck the woman as she was walking from a Jamaica celebration in downtown Martindale to her home on Highway 142. A Caldwell County Justice of the

Peace pronounced her dead at the scene.
According to Sgt. Kimberly Phillips of the Martindale Police Department, neither alcohol nor excessive speed was involved in the incident.
“She almost made it [across the road], but just didn’t quite get there,” she said. “It was just a very tragic accident.
Phillips did not name the victim, who lived with her husband in Martindale, but said services would be held on Friday.
