Mary Ida Uhlig Nolte, 101, passed away at Parkview Nursing and Rehab in Lockhart, Texas on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. She was born on July 1, 1912, the sixth child of Otto Carl and Hulda Yaeger Uhlig. She was predeceased by her parents, all of her siblings, Herman, Carl, Minnie, Leonard, Lena, Rosie, Dora and Elsie and her beloved husband of 42 years, Bill Nolte. Her father

, Otto Uhlig also passed away on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1958.

Mary was born on a farm in Niederwald, Texas. She spent her entire married life on a farm with Bill until his death in 1976. As he wished, she then moved to town and enjoyed many years traveling with senior citizen groups, special friend, Martha Schrieber and her sister, Elsie. They visited all 48 contiguous states, Europe, Canada and the Caribbean. She often stated that she never dreamed she would actually see many of the places she previously had only read about.

A special treat for her were her casino trips she took with daughter, Peggy and son-in-law, Gary. She rarely missed any event in which her grandchildren participated and especially loved going to her grandson”s Rice football games.

As the years passed she did less and less traveling and spent more of her time playing cards, dominos, quilting, crocheting and baking cookies for her grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed the years she lived at The Greens and made many wonderful new friends. Canasta became her game of choice and she along with several other ladies at The Greens visited the Senior Citizen”s Center every week to play cards. Her cooking and baking skills were second to none and with much ease and confidence she could prepare a delicious hot lunch for her entire family in little time. She was a member of St. Paul”s United Church and Hermann Sons Lodge for over 75 years.

On July 1, 2012 Mary”s children and grandchildren hosted her 100th birthday party and were joined by nearly 100 of Mary”s friends and family. This day was very special for her. She still enjoyed relatively good health and was able to appreciate the occasion to the fullest.

Mary is survived by daughter, Janet and husband, Verne Schaefer; daughter, Peggy and husband Gary Allen; and son, Billy and wife, Kathy Nolte. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Raegan and Brad Frey, Lane and Amy Allen, Chase and Amy Allen, Bill and Brittany Nolte, and Amanda Nolte and great-grandchildren, Jacob Frey, Taylor Frey, Alana Nolte, Will Nolte, Shawn Nolte, Tanner Allen, Reese Allen and Alex Allen.

A very special thanks to grandson, Lane and his entire staff at Parkview Nursing for the kind and loving care they provided “Nana” for the past 19 months. The family also wants to thank Dr. Laurence for tending to her medical needs.
