Maurine Shirley
After a brief illness, our beloved mother went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 2. Born Helen Maurine Voigt, she was the daughter of Afton Voigt and Lora Culpepper Voigt. She was born in Red Rock on Dec. 28, 1927. She graduated from Bastrop High School and married the love of her life, Billy Petty Shirley, on March 14, 1948. Together they had three children.
She
retired from her job as a teller at the First-Lockhart National Bank in 1989 and together they enjoyed retirement until Billy”s death in 2001.
Maurine was a life long member of the Church of Christ. She loved the Lord and demonstrated her faith in Him every day.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Billy Don Shirley and wife, Beth, Kathy Long and husband, Wayne, and Nadine Strawn and husband, Fla; grandchildren: Monica Irwin and husband, Terry. Mandy Shirley, Kandra Maiorka and husband, Tony, Courtney Ruple and husband, Jason, Matthew Strawn, Amy Strawn, James Bliss and wife, Katy, and Katherine ”Kathi” Bliss; great-grandchildren: Braden and Addison Irwin, Austin Shirley, Brandon Hernandez, Michael, Angela and Sophia Maiorka, and Reagan Bliss; her step-sister, Caroline Miller and husband, Jimmy; sisters-in-law, Mable Voigt and Yvonne Voigt; special friend Linda Hilton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Odell Voigt and Billie Voigt; sister-in-law, Muriel Voigt; and step-mother Levia Voigt.
Visitation with the family was held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, April 4, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart. Her family and friends celebrated her life with services at the McCurdy Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 5. Rev. Bob Hailey of the Lockhart Church of Christ officiated. Burial followed after a short graveside service at Lockhart City Cemetery.
Serving as pall bearers were Billy Don Shirley, Wayne Long, Fla Strawn, Matthew Strawn, Terry Irwin, Jason Ruple, James Bliss and Tony Maiorka.
The family would like to thank Dr. Arjun Mohandas, the staff at the Golden Age Home, and the Chisholm Trail Living and Rehab Center in Lockhart for their outstanding care.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Lockhart EMS or the charity of your choice.
