The Lockhart Lions Varsity soccer team hosted the Manor Mustangs in district play on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The Mustangs won 3-0.
The Lions looked sharp at the beginning of the match, linking passes together and moving down the field swiftly.
As the game went on, the Mustangs got the pace of play with hard-nosed defense and a

relentless midfield attack. By halftime, their attack had netted the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.
The second half began with a rejuvenated Lions squad taking to the offense. The Lions continued to play well but were one pass or good touch away from scoring a goal.
The Mustang defense did just enough to keep the Lions at bay. The game ended with a Mustang victory and a score of 3-0 despite the Lions best efforts in a physical game.
Standouts for the Lions were Jacob Berry and Colton Vogel.
The Varsity Lions hosted the Elgin Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 1. The Wildcats knocked the Lions out of the playoffs three years ago so the Lions were pumped up for the game.
The Lions started out playing intelligent soccer, using the wings and playing good combination passes down the flank of the defense. Unfortunately, the Lions were thwarted by their own mistakes and the Wildcat defense.
The Lions created significant turnovers and the Wildcats took advantage of every one of them. Elgin transitioned well and after several turnovers the match ended 3-0.
The Lions traveled to Kyle and faced the Rebels on Tuesday, Feb. 5 and will travel to New Braunfels to play against the Cougars on Friday, Feb. 8 Check next week’s Post-Register for highlights and scores.
See you at the game.
