Prairie Lea Indians celebrate Homecoming

The six-man football stadium lights shone bright against the blackness of the Prairie Lea sky on Friday, Oct. 3 as the Prairie Lea High School Homecoming court stood at attention along the sidelines during the halftime presentation.

All Homecoming Queen candidates smiled and waved at the fans and friends in the stands as they

waited for the announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen.

John Cantrell was the lucky young man to get the Homecoming King’s crown, and Melissa Pullen was chosen as his Queen.

It had been anticipated and perhaps wished that Prairie Lea Indian football player Kasey Rose would be voted as the Homecoming Queen, but it was not to be.

“We all thought she’d get it,” art teacher Corina Esquivel said. “I mean everybody was talking about how it would be neat to have the only Homecoming Queen in shoulder pads.”

The Prairie Lea Indians had been playing very well and leading in the game up until the final play of the first half.
The Town East team scored late in the third quarter to snatch the lead from the Indians and closing the first half scoring at 12-16.

The Prairie Lea Indians never recovered. The final score was 18-38.

The Indians have been struggling all season long and have yet to win a single game.
