Richard G. Penna
Dr. Richard G. Penna was born June 9, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, and passed away on Oct. 16, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Penna.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kennedy Penna; mother, Vera Boomer; daughters, Carrie DuVall, Andrea Fisher and Lindsay Wright; stepsons, Ryan, Travis and Foster Baird; six grandchildren; and sisters, T
erri Kotsolios and Joan King.
Dr. Penna graduated from Texas Wesleyan College, earned a Master’s degree from SMU Perkins School of Theology and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University.
He was a retired United Methodist minister. Dr. Penna was the founding pastor of Genesis UMC, Ft. Worth.
His other pastorates included First UMC, Waco, Texas, and Northwest Hills UMC, Austin, Texas.
Most recently, Dr. Penna pastored Addicks UMC, in Houston.
There was a visitation on Monday, Oct. 19, 6-8 p.m. at Thompson’s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home, 702 8th Ave., Ft. Worth, Texas. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. at Genesis UMC, 7635 S. Hulen St., Ft. Worth, Texas. There will also be a Memorial Service on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2 p.m. at Memorial Drive UMC, 12955 Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church.
