Christine Alexander, 95, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away on July 27, 2009, at the Golden Age Home in Lockhart. She was born July 15, 1914, in Jarrell, Texas to Guy G. and Lalon Holt Moran, and raised in Salado, Texas as one of eight siblings. She was married to J.R. “Buck” Alexander in 1945.

r and wife, Candy, James W. Alexander and wife, Molly, and Thomas R. Alexander and wife, Penny; sisters Avis Hall, Fay Fortenberry and Vera (Tommie) Bruns and brother Col. Guy G. Moran (Ret.). She has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Modell Ridling and Cleo Zimmerman; and brother, Col. Charles Moran.

She graduated as salutatorian from Salado High School and received a degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Texas in Austin. For seven years, she worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in central Texas.

She was a long-time, active member of the First United Methodist Church in Lockhart, where she taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and served as chairperson of numerous committees. In addition to her active church life, she volunteered with the school district and Planned Parenthood. Her volunteer work also included board membership for the Golden Age Home, Meals on Wheels and Caldwell County Christian Ministries.

Visitation with the family was scheduled from 6 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart. Funeral services were planned at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 30 at McCurdy Funeral Home, with burial following at the Lockhart City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, Salado Cemetery Association or the First Lockhart Methodist Church.
