Rosa Selma Ehrlich Schaefer passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 at the Christopher House in Austin, Texas at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband Gus Schaefer in 1972 and her son Lyndell in 1975.

Rosa was born on Dec. 4, 1917, to Max and Mary Dittmar Ehrlich a pioneer family in Caldwell County. She was the seventh of nine children. Her siblings Guss

ie, Meta, Maxie, Emil, Alvin, Herbert and Lawrence preceded her in death.

Her family worked hard on the farm. They raised cattle, hogs, chickens, turkeys and grew cotton, corn, maize and hay. They always had a good garden. Rosa went to work in 1962 for the Lockhart High School Cafeteria. She retired in 1980 from school, but continued to farm and ranch her home place for many more years.

Rosa was an active member and past Council President of Trinity United Church in Niederwald, the Women Guild and the Caldwell County Teachers Association. She loved to cook and bake and no one ever left her home without being offered a cup of coffee, lunch and a honey bar.

Rosa is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Daniel Olle of Austin; granddaughter and husband, Lori and Curtis Sellers, of Manor; grandson, Terrell Olle of Mustang Ridge and friend, Kathrine Schmidt, of San Antonio; great-granddaughters Danielle Sellers, of College Station, and Calie Sellers, of Manor; and sister, Elsie Sultermeier of Johnson City, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was scheduled to be held at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart, on Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 5 – 8 p.m. Funeral services were scheduled on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at 2 p.m. at McCurdy Memorial Chapel with Pastor Carla Cheatham, Pastor Sarah Bentley, and Pastor Will Brown officiating, followed by interment at the Niederwald Cemetery on Highway 21.

Pallbearers are Alan Ehrlich, Brandon Sultemeier, Jack Strouse, Lloyd Lippe, Bobby LeDoux, Donald Ewald, Harry Schriber and Brian Dailey.

Rosa Schaefer, lovingly called Granny by her family, will be missed by her family, her friends and her community. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Church Niederwald or Niederwald Cemetery Fund.
