Varsity Lions end season with 77-44 loss to Hays

The Varsity Lions ended their season with Parents’ Night and a 77-44 loss to the Hays Rebels at the Lion’s Den on Friday, Feb. 13.
Lion players and their parents were introduced to the home crowd before the last game of the season as family and friends at the Lion’s Den cheered them on. After the brief introductions and
the National Anthem, the game was on.
The Lions started strong, scoring 13 points in the first quarter. They fought hard offensively and defensively, allowing only 18 points from the Rebels in the first.
Xavier Moore led the scoring in the first with a total of four points. He made a two-point shot and two free throws.
Ricky Rodriguez made a three-pointer while Octavio “T.J.” Terrazas, Janovus Croomes and J.C. Winkler each sank a two-point shot.
Second quarter scoring was also close. The Lions continued to stay in the game against the Rebels. They scored 10 points and the Rebels scored 13, ending the first half at 31-23.
Croomes scored four points with two free throws and a two-pointer. Rodriguez scored three with a free throw and a two-point shot. Adam Renteria sank two free throws and Hector Rangel added one point with a free throw.
The Rebels turned up the heat in the second half, scoring 22 points in each of the third and the fourth quarters. The Lions, on the other hand, only scored 10 points in the third and 11 in the fourth.
Christian Estrada scored four points in the third with a pair of two-pointers. Renteria and Rangel each made a two-point shot and Moore made two free throws.
Mario Martinez sank a three-pointer in the fourth while Rangel, Rodriguez and Dustin Watkins each made a two-point shot. Moore added two free throws to the fourth ending the game at 77-44.
