William (Bill) Roger Canady
William (Bill) Roger Canady, Senior Master Sergeant, Retired, US Air Force, 75, passed away at home March 26, 2005.
A resident of Austin from 1970 until 1997, at which time he met and married the love of his life, partner and sole mate Iola Mae and moved to Lockhart where he lived and ranched with his beloved Iola until he wasdiagnosed with terminal cancer of the head
and neck area in 2004. He then moved back to Austin for treatments. Bill was born at South Creek, N.C., on July 16, 1929, to Mark Bisco and Alma Griffin Canady.
After Bill graduated from Aurora H.S. in 1948 he joined the Air Force in August 1948 and served on active duty until his retirement in March 1973. After retirement he went to work as a civilian employee at Bergstrom AFB from September 1973 until his retirement in November 1993.
Bill was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church on Bee Cave Road, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Life Member of the Retired Enlisted Assoc. (TREA), a member of the American Military Society and a member of the SPJST Lodge #18 in Elgin, where you could usually find him and Iola on a Sunday afternoon dancing to the good old Polka and Waltz music.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Winifred Kelly Canady.
Surviving him are his wife of 8 years, Iola Mae Canady; daughter, Suzette Jean Magness and husband Kenneth of Austin; five sons, Timothy Lee Canady of Albuquerque, NM, Terrace Michael Canady and wife Anna of Oklahoma City, Okla., Thomas Joseph Canady and wife Jennifer and grandson Devon Everrett Canady of Austin, Patrick Kevin Canady and wife Carol and grandchildren Amber Leigh and Patrick Ryne of Sparks Nev., Michael William Canady and wife Laura and grandsons Brenden and Sean of Keller, Texas; brothers, Roland Owen Canady and wife Nelly of Chesnee, S.C., Marvin Glen Canady and wife Phyllis of Harrisburg, N.C., Ronald Lee Canady and wife Brenda of Maccicsfield, N.C.; stepdaughters, Jolen Homann of Austin, Larae Ward and husband Steve of Cedar Park, Ronda Lehman and husband Brad of Lockhart and Betty Lou Rossomano and husband John of Bayshore, N.Y.; and eight step grandchildren.
A special thank you to all caregivers, Dr. Charles Snow, Dr. Robert Butler, Dr. William Myers, Dr. Timothy Dzuik and their associates and a special thanks to all the care providers from Hospice Austin who worked so hard to make Bill more comfortable at this difficult time. Also a special thanks to all our friends and neighbors for their prayers and support throughout Bill”s illness.
In honor of Bill”s wishes, he will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Rd., Suite 100, Austin, Texas 78759-8645.
Memorial Services for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 3525 Bee Caves Rd., Austin, Texas with Reverend Stephen M. Youngdahl officiating.
