Bill Grobowsky died peacefully at his home in Lockhart Texas of Alzheimer”s disease at the extraordinary age of 91. He was born on May 8, 1917.

Bill was raised on the family farm in the German community of Neiderwald, Texas, and spoke only German when he started school. Bill met his best friend and the love of his life La Nelle Harris Waldrip while attending a dance a

t Roger’s Ranch. They married on July 4,1941. They had their only child, Sandra Merle, on Jan. 22, 1943.

There has never been anything more important to Bill than his family. He has been an incredible husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Bill and La Nelle were married 67 years before La Nelle’s passing on Nov. 24, 2008. We take great comfort in knowing they are together again.

Bill retired from the Texas State Comptrollers Office after 20 years of service in 1981.Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his yard and growing beautiful bougainvilleas. Bill and La Nelle loved to travel. Their favorites trips were to Las Vegas.

Bill was a very caring, gentle man with a strength his family and friends. He always had a smile on his face, a good joke to share and love in his heart. To know him was to love him and to be loved by him was to feel safe, happy and cared for. There are not words to properly express how much he will be missed.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Mamie Cash and Emil August Grobowsky, Sr.; his loving wife, La Nelle Harris Grobowsky; three brothers: Hilmer, Alvin and Emil, Jr.; and his great-grandson, Brandon Douglas Pineda.
