Helen Voges Scharmann, born Jan.15, 1924, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 31, 2011, at the age of 87.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Malvin and Ella Voges; her husband of 49 years (at the time of his passing) Henry Scharmann; her sister, Rozella Kneupper; her daughter, Patsy Schuenemann ;and a grandson, Jack Miller.
She is survived by her children: Shirley Jones, of Lake Hills, Texas, Margrette and son-in-law, Rev. Billy Stevens, of Seguin, Frances and son-in-law, Richard Hess, of Lockhart,son-in-law, Darrell Schuenemann ,of Staples; Rev. Larry and daughter-in-law, Trish Scharmann, of San Antonio, Randa and son-in-law, Roger Wagner, of San Marcos. Helen is also survived by her sister-in-law, Annie Minor, of Boerne, and by 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Helen was born in Boerne, Texas, to Malvin and Ella Voges. She married Henry Scharmann, from Kendalia, Texas, on Jan. 29, 1941 and they resided primarily in New Braunfels, where they raised six children. Helen was proud of and loved her family.
In addition to raising her children at home, Helen worked several years at the coffee shop at the Plaza drugstore in New Braunfels. She enjoyed arts and crafts and loved to draw and paint and her witty sense of humor would often catch people off guard.
After Henry went home to be with our Lord, Helen relocated to Lockhart where she could be closer to three of her children. She spent much of her time gardening, painting, visiting with friends and family and playing dominos with her friend Louie Sanchez.
The family planned to receive visitors at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels. A memorial service was planned at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Zoeller Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Scharmann officiating. Burial was planned at held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2012, at the Kneupper Cemetery in Kendalia , Texas. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Ricky Hess, Kenneth Hess, Paul Schuenemann, Keith Scharmann, Donald Miller and David Wagner. Honorary pallbearers were Mary Helen Bradford, Dean Helmke, Tammy Reed and Louie Sanchez.
Helen will be missed dearly. May she rest in God’s hands and know that she will be forever remembered and loved by her family and friends.
