Joe Fischer Jr.

Joe Fischer Jr.

Husband, father, grandfather, and patriot.

Joe Fischer, Jr. was born in the Elm Grove farming community on Aug. 18, 1923, and graduated from Elm Grove Community School. Joe enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in North Africa, participated in the invasion of Sicily, and then in the Normandy invasion. He fought in a Sherman Tank named “Brooks” until the end of the war then returned home and married his long time sweetheart Natalene McKean on July 8, 1946.

Joe was a professional firefighter with the Ft Sam Houston Fire Department; he was injured in the line of duty he retired in 1975. He was a loving husband, caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and a role model for everyone who knew him.

Joe was a member of the First Lockhart Baptist Church and the American Legion. He led by example; he always kept his word, worked hard, and never had a bad word for anyone, unless the Astros or Cowboys lost.

His memory will be cherished, and his family will miss him greatly. He left this life on March 2, 2012.
