Orville Vance Garner

Orville Vance Garner, 87, of Lockhart, passed away Monday, July 31, 2006, at Seton Edgar B. Davis Hospital in Luling. He was born on April 4, 1919, in McMahan to Dan and Mary Alice (Van Horn) Garner.
Orville served in the United States Army during World War II, having enlisted in March of 1940. He arrived in the European Theater on April 13, 1943, and went on to Pasteu

m, Italy, on Sept. 9, 1943, and was in Anzio, Italy, in January of 1944. He received three Bronze Stars for his service in the Italian Campaign, as well as the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the American Defense Service Ribbon.
Orville married Melinda Schulle on July 27, 1946, in Lockhart. He was a hardworking man and spent his life farming the land he loved so well. He was a Baptist.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Mary Alice Garner; one daughter, Mary Alice Garner; three sisters and one brother.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Melinda Garner of Lockhart; his daughter, Barbara McCrary of New Caney; his sister, Geneva DeViney of Jonesboro, Arkansas; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, in the McCurdy Memorial Chapel with Elder Vance Rodgers officiating. Interment followed in Jeffrey Cemetery in McMahan. Pallbearers were Ron McCrary, Rodney McCrary, Mike Campbell, John Garner, Johnny Simmering and Russell Tiner.
