LHS track teams dominate Dripping Springs meet

The Lockhart High School track teams traveled to Dripping Springs this weekend to participate in the Dripping Springs Relays. It was a banner weekend for the Lions and the Lady Lions, as Lockhart ran away with three team championships and dozens of medals on the meet.

Tara Grieger proved a heavy gun in the Lady Lion arsenal this weekend, earning a total of five medals, including first place finishes in the Long Jump, with a distance of 16″5″, and the Triple Jump, where she landed a jump of 33″8″. She also earned a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, a fourth place finish in the 400-meter, and a second palce finish, along with teammates Taylor Brite, Jocelyn Coleman and CeCe Smith in the 400-meter relay.
Smith picked up a victory in the 200-meter, finishing in a time of 25.7, and earned silver medal honors for her performance in the 400. Brite and Coleman also earned multiple honors, with Brite finishing fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and sixth in the 110 hurdles and Coleman taking sixth in the 100-meter dash.
Aly Daly, Teie Harris and Jaimee Bennett also gave gold-medal performances on the weekend. Daly pole vaulted 11″6″ for her victory in the event. Harris hurled the shot 39″07″ and Bennett tossed the discus 113″04″. Daly also earned a silver for her 5:48 time in the 1600-meter. Bennett”s 31″04″ shot put earned her fifth place, just behind teammate Desilynn Garner with a distance of 31″11″.
Lady Lions Jordyn Platt and Aly Gonzales took fourth and fifth place respectively in the 3200, with Platt completing the course in 12:36 and Gonzales trailing her by seven seconds. Livi Massey and Leandra Garcia both put up great performances in the 800. Massey earned a second-place finish for her 2:26 time, while Garcia trailed her by 10 seconds to earn fifth. Massey, Gonzales, Garcia and Alex Maderal also comprised the fifth place 1600-meter relay team.
The Junior Varsity Lady Lions put up an equally impressive performance, earning at total of 11 medals, including six golds. They swept gold and silver in two events and earned a team championship.
The JV Lady Lions relay teams blew the competition out of the water, running strong and finishing first in the 400-meter and the 800-meter, and striking silver in the 3200.
The 400-meter team, Shelby Henrichs, Ashley Officer, Jania Micaelson and Alison Harris ran their course in 53.9. Harris, Henrichs and Officer teamed up again, this time with Bethany Horton to earn a winning time of 1:54 in the 800-meter relay. Horton and Michaelson joined Mary Woody and Cassie Diaz for a 4:48 run in the 3200.
Bianca Juarez also struck gold for the Lady Lions, completing the 3200 in 13:23. Teammate Kelsey Daily brought in a ribbon for fifth place in the same event, finishing in 14:04.
Sacora Manning and Alison Harris brought finished back-to-back in the 100, earning first and second place for their respective 12.9 and 13.2 finishes. Manning brought in a second gold in the 200-meter dash, finishing seconds before Officer, who placed fourth, and Michaelson, who earned sixth.
Shelby Ohlendorf earned bronze for her 2:39 performance in the 800, followed closely by C. Diaz, who finished the course fourth in 2:41. Diaz also earned sixth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:10.
Lauren Moore and Jesi Greer rounded out scoring for the JV Lady Lions, finishing third and fifth respectively in the 110 hurdles.

TJ Terrazas proved a powerhouse for the Lions, earning a total of four medals, including one gold and two silvers, and one ribbon. He dominated the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.3. Terrazas also earned silver in the long and the 200-meter, fifth in the triple jump and earning a bronze medal in the 400-meter relay along with teammates Dominique Hardaway, Kevin Haynes and Kendall Arnold.
David Dinh and Kenny Brite also gave strong performances, earning two gold medals each. Dinh led the pack in the 800-meter, finishing the course first in 2:06, just ahead of teammate AJ Maderal, who finished second, and later winning the 1600-meter with a time of 4:57. Brite won the high jump with a 5″6″ jump and the 400-meter dash with a 54.8 finish.
