LPR Staff Report
River Bailey and Xavia Thompson stole the show for the Lockhart Lions track teams last week at the District 26-5A track & field meet in Kerrville.
Bailey placed first in the varsity boys 3200m run with a time of 10:05:38, and sprinter Xavia Thompson won the varsity girls 100m run, finishing in just 12.46 seconds.
Bailey also won the boys’ 1600, finishing the mile race with a time of under 4:30.
But the two were just a couple of the athletes who placed high enough to advance to the area track meet, which precedes the regional and state track meets.
Also advancing on the boys’ side were Skylar Griffin, who finished second in the boys’ pole vault (13-6), Zion Petty, who took second in the boys’ shot put (43-11.75), Luke Hippensteel (third in the boys’ 800m run, 2:00.09), and David Mendez-Serrato who took second in the 3200 and third in the 1600.
Boys finishing in the top six but not advancing to area were Darius Spruell (sixth place, pole vault), the 1600 relay team (Dylan Schuenemann, Justin Woodworth, Jared Galindo and Hippensteel), the 800 relay team (Galindo, Jesus Aldana, Daequan Ellison and Robert Branch) and the 400 relay team (Daequan Ellison, Daetron Ellison, Jared Galindo and Robert Branch).
On the girls’ side, the quartet of Madison Armstrong, Thompson, Josette Medina and Star Fletcher-Shoals advanced in the 800 and 400 relays. They took third in the 800 with a time of 1:46.62 and second in the 400 (49.69).
Thompson also took fifth in the pole vault.
The Lockhart boys finished sixth in the team event with 65 points. Boerne Champion (116), Seguin (111) and Dripping Springs (96) took first, second and third.
The Lockhart girls took seventh in team with 40 points. Boerne Champion (189), Marble Falls (120) and Kerrville Tivy (94) finished first, second and third.
