The ninth annual Gig ‘Em & Hook ‘Em Golf Classic — which exists solely to generate money for scholarships for students attending Texas A&M or the University of Texas —  tees off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lockhart State Park Golf Course and is still open to new participants.
So far, 26 people have registered to compete in the 4-man scramble tournament, but teams will be accepted up until tee time. Game-day registration, which is $75 per person, begins at 7:30 a.m. at the course.
Registration includes a free breakfast and free lunch catered by Black’s.
All proceeds, which go toward scholarships for Caldwell County graduating seniors, are divided equally between the two alumni groups.
“David Kristnyk, former president of the Texas Exes, approached (the A&M alumni head) Gary Dickinson, and they started it,” said B.J. Westmoreland, golf tournament coordinator.”They just thought a joint golf tournament would be more effective.”
The tournament has raised more than $70,000 since its incarnation eight years ago.
To preregister, contact Kirk Smith at kgsmith41@masn.com or 512-668-4154.
Bronze ($50), Silver ($100) and Gold ($250) sponsorships are being sold to benefit scholarship funding. All sponsors will be recognized in the local papers.
The awards lunch following the tournament will be at the top of the hill at Lockhart State Park.
Awards Lunch tickets will be available at the door for $10. Contact Lucy Knight at 512-581-4500 for sponsorship applications and more information.
