New bank to open in Lockhart
First National buys vacant drive-thru

Edinburg-based First National Bank announced this week that it has purchased property in Lockhart and intends to open a branch here in the future.

ch. The property, formerly owned by Omnibank, N.A., is already equipped as a complete bank branch, with drive-through lanes and an ATM machine.
Rogers did not say whether First National Bank had additional construction plans for the site, or when the branch was expected to be opened. He did note, however, that the bank would operate under the name “Camino Real Banks.”
First National Bank currently operates more than 50 branches in Texas, and has offices in Monterrey, Mexico.
First National Bank was founded in Edinburg in 1934, when community leaders decided to open a bank to specifically serve what they believed to be the area”s “unique needs.” Their initial investment was some $50,000.
Through the years, First National Bank has grown significantly, opening locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas. Recent acquisitions have increased the banks holdings to include properties in Fort Worth, El Paso and Austin. The bank operates 59 locations throughout Texas and Mexico and holds more than $4 billion in assets.
According to the bank”s website, more than 85 percent of the bank”s stock is owned by bank employees, making it the largest privately-held banks in Texas.
