Junior Varsity Lions take Travis Rebels 34-14

The Junior Varsity Lions continue to improve their undefeated status. They now have a 3-0 record after taking the Austin Travis Rebels down for the count with a whopping 34-14 score at Lion Field on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
“The JV Lions improved with an impressive victory over Austin Travis,” JV Coach Richard McAdams said. ??
?Pounding the ball for over 300 yards on the ground, the rushing attack was led by Nolan Lockhart, Dylan Messerly, Brooks Pittman and Tony Moreno. Guillermo Juarez, Lockhart, Messerly and Pittman all scored touchdowns. Defensively, the Lions only gave up one touchdown until the last play of the game. Pittman was four for five on pats and Will Robinson kicked two kickoffs out of the end zone for touchbacks. We hope to improve our record to 4-0 against Austin Crockett.”
The JV Lions scored first in the game with a touchdown and extra point kick for a 7-0 lead over the Rebels in the first quarter.
The Rebels answered back by moving the ball up the field quickly with passes and rushes until they reached the goal line for their first touchdown of the game. The extra point kick was good for a 7-7 tie.
The Lions took the ball at their own 30-yard line for a first-and-10 only to fumble and have the Rebels recover at the 39-yard line. The Rebels moved the ball up the field by completing passes. They reached the end zone with a final pass only to have the score taken back because of a penalty. The first quarter ended at 7-7.
The second quarter started with the Lions recovering their own fumble at the top of the quarter. The Lions intercepted a Travis pass in good field position. Lockhart rushed for a first-and-goal at the 2-yard line. After a couple of attempts, Lockhart rushes in for a touchdown. Pittman’s kick was good for a 14-7 Lion lead.
Travis fumbled after two plays. Lions moved the ball all the way to the Travis 6-yard line. Lockhart scored another touchdown for a 20-7 score. Pittman’s kick went wide right.
Robinson’s kick went through the end zone. Travis took the ball at the 20-yard line and took a time out before their first down. The first half ended at 20-7.
The Rebels took the ball at the 28-yard line at the top of the third quarter. The Lions kept the pressure on them and held them back by sacking the Travis quarterback on the third and fourth downs. The Lions took over at the 23-yard line. Travis got a 15-yard penalty for a late hit. The third ended at 20-7.
The fourth quarter began with Pittman tearing through the Travis defense for a touchdown and then coming back to deliver a kick for a commanding 27-7 lead.
Josh Hernandez scored a touchdown late in the fourth. Pittman’s kick was good for a 34-7 lead.
With 10 seconds left in the game, Travis returned the ball 45 yards for a first down at the Lion 30 yard line. A 30-yard pass by the Travis quarterback was completed and good for the final touchdown of the night. The extra point kick was good for a final score of 34-14.
The JV Lions will play against Austin Crockett at Lion Field on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m.
