Dorothy Curry
Dorothy Irwin Matthews Curry passed on Oct. 12, 2008. She was born April 13, 1912, to Edward Irwin and Amanda Emma Irwin.
She was born in the town of Agua Dulce and moved to San Antonio at age 13. She attended Brackenridge High School, and later attended Lady of the Lake College for a degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Elementary Education. She
earned a certification in Library Science and worked in public schools for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers and one grandchild.
She leaves behind her daughter, Dorothy Matthews-Laird and husband, Lee, of Lockhart; a son, Dr. Gary Matthews and wife, Tatsiana, of Austin; four grandchildren: Terri Joy, of Roxsboro, N.C., Alex Walston and wife, Rebecca, of Austin, Michael Matthews, of Austin, and Nathan Matthews and wife, Liz, of Arlington, Va.; and eight great-grandchildren: Emma, Lillie and India Matthews, of Virginia, Jade, Drae and Sophia Matthews, Belle Walston and Penelope Walston, of Austin. She is also survived by one sister, Murden Montes, of San Antonio, and many nieces and nephews.
The family plans a private service at a later date.
Memorials in her name are requested to the First United Methodist Church of Lockhart or any nature organization, such as Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Lady Bird Wildlife Center of Austin, or the Sentimental Journey Garden at Golden Age Home in Lockhart.
