Junior High Lady Lions end season with victories

Eighth Grade Volleyball
The Lady Lion Eighth Grade “B” team ended the season with a bang Monday night. The team beat the Chapa Cougars in two straight games with the scores of 25-6 and 25-5. With the big win, the girls clinched the district title with a 6-0 undefeated record and 11-1 overall record. Brittney Erickson set the tone of the first game with five aces an

d three kills. Leslie Jackson piled up five kills of her own. Great defense was credited to Leizl Porter and Carissa Adair. Kristian Hawkins controlled game two with consistent powerful serves. Hawkins served 20 straight points before Chapa broke the serve to put one point on the board. It was too little too late for Chapa. Charlotte Williams finished out the game with three aces.

Seventh Grade Volleyball
On Monday, Oct. 27, the Lady Lions Seventh Grade “B” volleyball team ended their season with a win over Chapa Middle School, 25-17 and 25-22. The Lady Lions roared back from a tough loss last week to Goodnight Middle School and played an awesome season ending game.

In Game One, the Lady Lions were consistent at the serving line with Halley Schulle, Gabby Ybarra, and Mariah Hill serving several aces on the night. Sinoy Thompson, Raven Reed, and Hanna Clickscales were unstoppable at the net with powerful sets and attacks. Emma Lewis and libero Trena Lorett had multiple digs from the back row to help the ladies secure the win.

In Game Two, the ladies battled point for point with the skilled Chapa Cougars. Dariella Herrera, Kelsey Pittman, and Hill attacked the ball with precision. The Cougars could not handle the wrath of the Lady Lions kills at the net. Amanda Henrichs and Schulle hustled to set the ball well, while Sabrina Gonzalez and Ybarra pounded out accurate serves to lead the ladies to victory.

“The girls really showed all the skills they had learned throughout the season,” Coach Alisha Homann said. “I had a great time coaching such a wonderful group of young ladies.”

The Lady Lions end their season with an overall record of 8-2 and a district record of 5-1. The team is currently in second place in the district standing behind San Marcos Goodnight. Goodnight is two games behind the Lions, so it is possible the ladies could come away with a district championship.

Eighth Grade Football
The Lockhart Lions Eighth Grade “A” Team secured their first victory of the season as they downed the Barton Bobcats 14-6. Jonathon Anzualda started the evening with an interception on Barton’s first pass attempt. Will Clark, Juan Marchan and the entire Lockhart “D” held Barton to limited gains all night.
Scores by Ray “Boom Boom” Sedwick, and Charles Ereaux put the game out of reach for the Bobcats. Fleet-footed Corey Cuellar also broke several crucial runs in the contest.

Seventh Grade Football
The Lockhart Lions Seventh Grade “A” football team put on a great showing Tuesday night, Oct. 21, against Barton. It was a total team effort from start to finish including, at one point, a 30-0 lead. The final score ended with Lockhart earning a 38-12 victory over the Bobcats. The Seventh Grade “A” Team is now 5-0-1 heading into the last district game of the year against Wallace (Hays).

The scorers for the game were Justin Montana off of an interception, Malik Hawkins off of running leap into the end zone, and Juan Lopez who was able to punch it in for three rushing touchdowns. Thanks also go to the great offensive line.

Defensively the team gave up a late touchdown, but played superb overall both against the pass and the run causing three fumbles and an interception.

Coaches thanked not only the parents and fans for their support all season, but the band and cheerleaders, who came to watch the team play last Tuesday for the first time this season.

The Seventh Grade Football “B” Team played an awesome game against Barton on Oct. 21. The Lions completely shut down the Barton Bobcats ending the game with a 6-0 victory. The winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter was scored by Eddie Contreras.
