The Varsity Lions hosted their first district home game against the Del Valle Cardinals on Friday, Feb. 13 and lost 2-0 after missing several opportunities to score while allowing the Cardinals to seal a victory with second goal.
The Lions were recovering from their first district loss of the season to the Mustangs earlier in
the week. After traveling to Manor, the Lions fell 4-2 on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Lions vs. Del Valle
“Del Valle scored in the third minute on a routine cross that was marked poorly by the Lion defense,” Head Men’s Soccer Coach Joshua Johnson said. “For the next 77 minutes, the Lions were unable to find the back of the goal despite having plenty of looks, including a free kick by Khalil Karl that came close, but missed.”
The Cardinals scored again late in the game, sealing the 2-0 victory.
Lions vs. Manor
The Lions were in Manor battling the district leading Mustangs on Tuesday and were unable to hold them back.
“The Lions got on the board first with an early goal coming off a throw from Johnny Juarez that connected with Cameron Peters in the first 15 minutes,” Coach Johnson said.
The Lions, however, were unable to keep the momentum going against the Mustangs, who scored three unanswered goals and clenched the 4-2 victory.
“We had some mental breakdowns at some really bad moments that proved to be insurmountable,” Johnson said. “We just finished up the toughest part of our season and are looking forward to getting back on track,”
The Lions will host the Smithville Tigers at the Lion Stadium on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7:45 p.m.
See you at the game.
