Lockhart TAFE garners national honors

Four of Lockhart High School’s Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) students placed in the Top 10 – including one first place winner — at the national competition June 29-July 2 at Orlando, Florida, with six Lions competing alongside 2,700 students at the meet.
The LHS students – Peyton Crabill, Xitlaly Manzano, Krista Cardenas, Kevin Arrieta, Jacque Roe, and Savannah Torres – competed in various education, training, and early learning competitions.
Junior Peyton Crabill competed in Job Interview and placed 1st in the nation in her event.
The Job Interview Competition was an opportunity for members to develop and practice their interview skills, as well as cover letter and résumé writing skills. In this competition, entrants applied for a position as a paraprofessional. This included a panel interview, submitting a cover letter explaining why the entrant is a good candidate for the position, as well as a résumé that details relevant work, volunteer, and educational experiences.
Sophomores Roe and Torres competed in Interactive Bulletin Board Elementary, placing 3rd in the nation.
Junior Cardenas competed in Exploring Education Administration Careers, and placed 10th in the nation.
The purpose of the competition was to learn more about education administration careers through job shadowing and interviewing a current education administrator. Contestants selected one education administrator that works within their school district to job shadow him or her for a total of eight hours. Contestants also created a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation that was presented to a panel of judges, followed by a discussion featuring questions from judges. Presentations reflected the experiences and insights gained into the career.
Under the direction and guidance of 19th-year Teacher Leader Amber Crabill and 4th-year Assistant Teacher Leader Jarin Pittman, the six Lockhart competitors showcased their hard work, dedication, leadership, and commitment to education is all about. The future generation of students will be blessed and honored to have an individual with their passion and knowledge to call their teacher.
