Madeline Carol Carter
Madeline Carol Carter, “Memaw” passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 4, 2024, at the age of 84. She was born on January 14, 1940, in Covington, Oklahoma, to Theodore Paul Emil Kriethe and Clara Bertha Hamann.
Madeline was a loving and compassionate soul who dedicated her life to caring for others. She was an ER nurse at Enid hospital, where she met her beloved husband, Bob Carter. They married on February 2, 1961, and Madeline became a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker during their 47-year marriage.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lockhart, Texas, where she worshiped with Bob and found solace and community. Madeline loved spending time with her grandchildren and always provided a loving home for them to visit. Her hobbies were baking, sewing, embroidery and gardening. She loved her many pets of dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and horses. She was always outside cultivating beautiful gladiolas, stargazer lilies and Irises surrounding her water garden. She would always grow the most beautiful house plants and was always sharing cuttings from the plants with family, neighbors, and friends. She loved to sew and craft and give her creations away as gifts.
Madeline is survived by her daughter, Judy Lee (Carter) Alonso, and her husband Richard Alonso; grandchildren, Christiana Schaefer, Madeline Sweeten, Noah Alonso, Brandon Mahoney, Robert Mahoney Jr, Angel Marie Carter; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Allen Carter; their son, Bobby Carter Jr.; daughter, JoLee Mahoney; her parents, Theodore and Clara; and siblings, Ted, Lloyd, Lois Jean, William, and LaVerta.
A visitation will be held on May 16, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on May 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Pennington Funeral Home 323 N. Comanche St., San Marcos, Texas. Burial will follow at San Marcos City Cemetery. The funeral home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
