Lockhart ISD is proud to announce the grand opening of the Lion Market/Mercado de los Leones, a new food pantry at Plum Creek Elementary (PCE) aimed at supporting students and their families. The pantry, which officially opened to the PCE community this Friday, Sept. 27, was made possible through partnerships with the Central Texas Food Bank and HEB.

The Lion Market is designed to ensure that students and their families have access to nutritious food, helping to reduce food insecurity and promote the community’s overall well-being.

“Mercado de Los Leones represents more than just food — it’s about providing security and hope for our students and their families,” said Jamee Griebel, Executive Principal of Plum Creek Elementary. “We are grateful to Central Texas Food Bank and HEB for their generous support in making this pantry a reality.”

LISD Superintendent Mark Estrada added, “This partnership is a testament to what can be accomplished when our community comes together. The Lion Market will play a key role in ensuring that Plum Creek students don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. We are thankful for the unwavering support of Central Texas Food Bank and HEB in this mission.”

The pantry is integral to the district’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for all students. The Lion Market will provide a variety of essential food items to students and families in need and is expected to impact the local community significantly.

At this time, Mercado de los Leones will only be open to Plum Creek families, but with more volunteer support, it will be open to the entire Lockhart ISD community. For more information about the Lion Market or to learn how you can support this initiative, please contact Plum Creek Elementary at (512) 398-0570.

Be on the lookout for a volunteer form in this week’s edition of the LISD Lion List, which is sent to LISD families and staff every Friday evening.
