Lions cruise in season-opener on hardwood

Lockhart opened its basketball season with an impressive 67-44 victory over Crockett Early College Saturday at the Lions Den.
The win avenged a loss to Crockett last season by 20 points. The Lions came out determined, flipping the script with a resounding 23-point win. This was Lockhart’s first 20-point victory since the 2021-2022 season.
The atmosphere in the gym was electric, with fans bringing energy that fueled the Lions on every possession. LHS Head Coach Collin Hart praised his team for its energy and effort, stating, “Our players fed off the energy in the gym and competed on every single possession.”
Dareon Loggins (senior) led the Lions’ charge with 21 points and 4 steals, showcasing his ability to dominate both ends of the floor. Jay Villalobos (junior) added 12 points and 3 assists, helping facilitate the offense, while seniors Roman Moreno, John Camacho and Izaiah Boyd were crucial on the boards with 9 rebounds, 8 rebounds, and 7 rebounds, respectively.
Lockhart controlled the boards and outrebounded Crockett 47-31.
DJ Anthony (junior) contributed with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and an impressive 6 steals.
The season opener marks an exciting start for the Lions, who are eager to build on their momentum and make this season a memorable one.
Lockhart visited Long Creek on Tuesday and will travel to Bastrop Saturday with the freshmen tipping off at 10 a.m., the junior varsity at 11:30 a.m., and te varsity at 1 p.m.
Lockhart will be at Luling on Nov. 19 with the varsity starting at 6:15 p.m. The Lions’ next home game will be Nov. 22 against Gonzales.
