Preston Ward, son of Caldwell County native and Lockhart High School graduate of 1984, Mitchell Ward, signed Wednesday as an offensive lineman with Texas State University. Preston Ward is a 6-foot, 2-inch, 265-pound lineman from Dallas (Parish Episcopal High School).
During his high school career, Ward and Parish Episcopal won three consecutive Texas Association of Private and Parochial state championships as a freshman, sophomore, and junior, and lost in the finals this season to Liberty Christian, 45-24.
Overall, Ward enjoyed a high school record of 43-10 in four seasons, including back-to-back 12-1 records to close out his final two seasons.
Episcopal had won five consecutive state titles before falling in this year’s finals to the Jason Witten-coached Warriors.
Texas State is coming off a second consecutive post-season bowl victory, 30-28 over North Texas in the First Responder Bowl. The Bobcats have finished 8-5 in each of G.J. Kinne’s two seasons at the San Marcos program.
After a very large early class of signees in December, Texas State signed just two on the second and final signing period – Ward and Prosper Rock Hill linebacker Jayden Bradley (6-2, 200).
Mitchell Ward is originally from St. John Colony
