Daniel E. Abernathy, a longtime resident and local business owner of Abernathy Air passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 66 surrounded by his family.

Daniel was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 17, 1958. He was a 1977 Lockhart High School graduate. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Air Force and was trained as an Airborne Communications Systems Operator, earning the rank of Sergeant in the 6 years he was enlisted, 3 years being on foreign soil.

Daniel would later establish Abernathy Air. It was built to serve the Caldwell County residents using honestly, integrity, upfront pricing and hard work. These values help develop Abernathy Air into a bustling company, one that still stands today.

When Daniel was not working he enjoyed hunting, hay baling, playing softball and loving life to its fullest.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sandra “Sandy” Abernathy of La Vernia, his mother in law Minnie Rodgers, his 2 daughters, Amber Davis and her husband, Justin of Round Rock, Kierstin Abernathy of Kyle, his brother Dennis Abernathy of La Vernia, his sister Dorothy Thornton and her husband Jesse of Lampasas; his grandchildren, Jaden and Jaxson Davis and Pacey Richeson and numerous nieces and nephews including Danny and Dakota Abernathy, and Andy and Aaron Thornton. Daniel is preceded in death by his parents George E. and Ann Abernathy and his beloved granddaughter Reece Richeson.

The Abernathy Family will hold a Celebration of Life service at a later date. Please visit www.mccurdyfuneralhome.com to sign the guest book.
