Lady Lions capture bronze at Cornerstone Christian Tournament
By Mark Rague

The Lockhart Lady Lions returned home with hardware last weekend, claiming the Bronze Division Championship at the Cornerstone Christian School Tournament in San Antonio. Over three days of competitive play, the Lady Lions showed grit, poise, and late-game toughness, earning two tight victories to secure the title.
Lockhart opened the tournament with a defensive battle against Canyon Lake. The game remained close from start to finish, but the Lady Lions’ timely scoring and disciplined half-court defense allowed them to pull ahead in the fourth quarter. Lockhart held strong in the final minute to seal a 31–28 win and advance in the division bracket.
In their final matchup, the Lady Lions faced Geneva School of Boerne in what became one of the tournament’s most exciting finishes. Both teams traded runs and momentum throughout, but Lockhart connected on crucial baskets down the stretch and held off a late push from Geneva to earn a dramatic 42–41 victory. The win clinched the Bronze Division Championship for Lockhart.
In addition to the team trophy, standout guard Peyton Johnson was selected to the All-Tournament Team. Johnson’s leadership, scoring presence, and consistent defensive effort were instrumental in the Lady Lions’ success throughout the weekend.
With two nail-biting victories and a division title, the Lady Lions made an early statement about their competitive potential this season. The team now looks to build on its tournament momentum as regular season play continues.
