Lockhart finished its own tournament with a 2-2 mark, bringing its overall record to 6-2 on the season.

The Lions stretched their winning streak to five games to open the season by opening the Lockhart Classic with a 66-57 victor over Gonzales.

In the win over the Apaches, Lockhart was led by sophomore DJ Anthony with 18 points and freshman Johnny Ford with 14. Other Lions scoring included senior Cristian Hernandez with 7 points, junior Elijah Santana 6, juniors John Camacho and Roman Moreno with 4 each, and senior Brady Stephenson with 4.

In the second game of the opening day of the Classic, Elgin handed Lockhart its first loss, 60-42.

“We had to get back into game mode after being off for the last 10 days,” Lockhart Head Coach Colin Hart said. “It took some time for us to shake the dust off,” Hart said. “We will learn from (this) and continue to grind in our practices to get our team where we need to be.”

Sophomore Jay Villalobos led the Lions against Elgin with 14 points, followed by Stephenson with 11.

On Saturday the Lions also split two games in the Classic, this time winning the opener and losing the second outing.

Crockett handled Lockhart, 67-49.

Villalobos again led the Lions with 12 points, followed by Ford and Cristian Hernandez (senior) with 11 points each, and Anthony with 7.

In the final game Saturday, Lockhart edged Geronimo Navarro, 49-41.

Villalobos pumped in 20 points, followed by junior Jacob Salas with 10, Ford 9, and Anthony 8.

“It was a good tournament for us,” Hart said. “We learned a lot and played some good competition. We will get back to work and get ready to go against a tough San Marcos team on Wednesday.”

Tipoff at San Marcos is 7 p.m.
