TxDOT continues highway talks

Representatives from the Trans Texas Corridor (TTC) project were in Lockhart last week to discuss the proposed 16-lane mass transit system that will run from Oklahoma to Mexico.
The project is still in the early planning phases, but the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) expects that, the TTC-35 branch will inclu

de six lanes for commuter traffic, four lanes for trucks and two lanes each for high-speed, commuter and freight rail.
The TTC-35 project is intended to ease traffic on IH-35 throughout the state by moving freight traffic and “non-locals” away from the highway in places such as Austin and San Marcos.
After gathering public input and performing environmental impact studies, TxDOT expects to submit the project for approval to the federal government by next spring. If the project is approved, the proposed routes all cut through Caldwell County, creating a mix of economic opportunity for residents and potential headaches for landowners.
Although TTC representatives have no current plans to hold another meeting in Lockhart, they will host several meetings in the area to hear public input. TTC-35 project open meetings will be held in San Antonio on March 21 and Seguin on March 22.
