The Lockhart Lions boys’ basketball program continued district play with matchups against Cedar Park and Leander, highlighting growth across all levels and a historic milestone for the varsity squad.

On Feb. 3, Lockhart hosted Cedar Park, with the JV team earning a strong 60–40 victory, while the freshman team dropped a close 44–42 contest. In the varsity game, the Lions delivered one of their most complete performances of the season but came up just short, falling 53–47.

Head coach Collin Hart said he was extremely proud of the team’s effort, especially considering the Lions lost by 50 points in their first matchup at Cedar Park earlier in the season. Lockhart focused on controlling what they could and put together strong practices leading into the game. The Lions played outstanding defense against one of the district’s top teams, which had been averaging more than 65 points per game in district play. Offensively, Lockhart executed well, using Coach Levi Hayes’ system to create driving lanes and attack gaps, while showing some of their best spacing of the season.

Senior DJ Anthony led the way with a dominant performance, finishing with 30 points and 13 rebounds while also reaching the 1,000-point milestone for his high school career during the game. Junior Niko Martinez added 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists in the strong team effort.

On Feb. 6, Lockhart traveled to face Leander. The freshman team earned another close district win, 45–43, continuing an impressive season. The JV team fell 56–36 but has shown steady improvement in recent weeks, gaining valuable experience on both ends of the floor.

In the varsity contest, Lockhart competed hard for three quarters before falling 66–30. Hart praised the coaching effort of Coach Hayes, noting how well prepared the team was heading into the game against one of the hottest teams in the district. The Lions competed on both ends before Leander pulled away late with strong three-point shooting.

Senior DJ Anthony led the Lions with 12 points and 7 rebounds, while junior Niko Martinez added 10 points and 4 rebounds.

The Lions will be back in action this upcoming week, hosting Rouse on Tuesday, Feb. 10, before traveling to Lehman on Friday, Feb. 13. The program looks forward to seeing continued support from the community at both games.
