Smoke drifted through the streets as live music echoed across the city during the third annual Lockhart Rising Festival on May 9, 2026, bringing together acclaimed chefs, musicians, and barbecue enthusiasts from around the globe for a celebration of food, music, and Texas culture.
Presented by Mill Scale Metal Works and hosted by Daniel Vaughn of Texas Monthly, the festival transformed downtown Lockhart into a showcase of open-fire cooking, live entertainment, and culinary collaboration.
Known as the “Barbecue Capital of Texas,” Lockhart welcomed a diverse lineup of culinary talent and performers, further cementing the festival’s growing reputation as one of Central Texas’ premier spring gatherings.
This year’s musical performances featured Silverada, Grammy award winner Adrian Quesada’s Trio Asesino, Jonathan Terrell, and DJ Giant Hornets from Japan, offering festivalgoers an eclectic mix of country, rock, and international sounds throughout the day.
The food lineup drew an internationally recognized roster of chefs and pitmasters, each serving signature dishes and demonstrating live-fire cooking techniques. Featured chefs included Ben Lambert of LeRoy and Lewis, James Peck of Rest Ember, Michael Hunter of Antler Kitchen & Bar, John Dunaway of El Capitan Hunt Club, and Levi Goode of Goode Co BBQ.
Additional culinary contributors included Mason Hereford of Turkey and the Wolf, John Manion of El Che Chicago, championship pitmaster Tuffy Stone, Charlie McKenna of Lillie’s Q, Will Andrews of Rolling Bones BBQ, and Hugo Ljungberg of Yamay Sauce.
Attendees sampled barbecue and globally inspired dishes while moving between cooking stations and music stages that filled the downtown district throughout the evening. Organizers said the annual festival continues to expand its reach, attracting visitors from across Texas and internationally while celebrating the culture and traditions that define Lockhart’s barbecue heritage.
In just three years, Lockhart Rising has emerged as one of the region’s signature food and music festivals, blending world-class culinary talent with the small-town atmosphere that has made Lockhart a destination for barbecue lovers worldwide.
