Lockhart, TX – For the third consecutive year, Lockhart ISD has been named a District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA).

This prestigious honor recognizes school districts that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to providing a well-rounded education that integrates and advocates for visual arts curriculum. Districts earning this distinction champion arts education by inspiring creativity and supporting social-emotional learning that connects young learners to their community and beyond.

TAEA is the leading advocate for visual arts in the state. The organization has long celebrated outstanding members, and 2026 marks the eighth year it is honoring districts that meet rigorous, data-supported criteria. Lockhart ISD is one of the top 10% of districts in Texas receiving this honor.

Behind this achievement are the hard-working educators who empower our Lions to express themselves, build confidence, and develop skills that translate outside the classroom.

“Receiving this honor three years in a row is something our entire visual arts department is incredibly proud of,” said Elementary Art Teacher and Visual Arts Coordinator Liza McCarthy. “This accomplishment represents not only the talent and heart of our teachers, but also Lockhart ISD’s continued investment in arts education.”

Lockhart ISD’s visual arts educators foster a love and appreciation for the arts while encouraging students to dream big and express themselves. This dedication serves as the foundation of a thriving Fine Arts program that continues to inspire students across the district.

“This recognition highlights the incredible work happening in our art classrooms every day,” said Director of Fine Arts James Crowley. “It speaks to the remarkable passion, innovation, and leadership of our educators as they continue to provide high-quality instruction and meaningful opportunities for students to grow through the arts.”

This commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom, demonstrating a district-wide belief in the power of the arts to inspire creativity, develop confidence, and support the growth of every student.

“We are grateful and proud to once again be recognized as a District of Distinction,” said Superintendent Dr. Mark Estrada. “Earning this honor for the third consecutive year is a testament to our exceptional visual arts educators, the strength of our Fine Arts program, and our unwavering commitment to teaching the whole child. This distinction reflects the Legacy of Excellence that our students, staff, and community continue to build together.”

Lockhart ISD will be recognized along with the other honorees at the TAEA District of Distinction Awards Ceremony during the TAEA Fall Conference on November 12, 2026.
