Letters – Former resident laments local taxes
To the Editor:
My wife and I lived in Lockhart from 2000-2008. We loved Lockhart and wanted to stay.
However, during our eight years in Lockhart our property taxes went from $2,650 to $8,900. We now live on a 70-acre farm (with two homes) in Tennessee and pay $800 a year in property taxes.
Texas needs to get a handle on this issue, as I believe many others wil
l be forced to leave the state as we did when they retire. School taxes seem to be the culprit and a heavy handed local assessor in Caldwell County.
Miss all of our friends in Lockhart. Thanks for listening.
