Lockhart All-Stars placed fourth at Canyon Lake
The Lockhart Little League 10-year-old All-Star team finished fourth in a nine-team tournament held at Canyon Lake last week, June 25-27. The All-Stars won three games and lost two, being eliminated Monday by the team from Canyon Lake.
Lockhart opened the tournament with a 9-2 victory over Stockdale. They were led by strong pitching performances by Trent Till and Will
Clark. The Lockhart hitters did a good job of hitting with runners in scoring position as Nico Perez, Trent Till, and Saivon Thompson all produced run scoring hits.
After falling behind 7-0 in game two against Canyon Lake, the team fought back behind the good pitching efforts of Jacob Haggerty and Nico Perez. However, Lockhart fell just short, losing by a final score of 9-7.
In game three, the All-stars” bats really came to life, as Lockhart defeated Gonzales 24-5. Hitters Jaime Maciel, Edgar Gutierrez, Cody Hargraves, and Avery Loveday led the attack, and pitchers Jacob Haggerty and Saivon Thompson shut down the opposition.
Clutch hitting continued in game four led by Gabriel Juarez-Ortiz, Will Clark and John Gonzales as the All-Stars defeated New Branunfels Red, 15-12.
Nico Perez started on the mound and Matthew Reynolds pitched three excellent innings of relief to preserve the victory.
Although the season ended with a 22-12 loss to Canyon Lake, the 10-year-old All-Star team has every reason to be proud of their performance in the tournament.
The team included Gabriel Juarez-Ortiz, Matthew Reynolds, Will Clark, Trent Till, Edgar Gutierrez, Avery Loveday, Jaime Maciel, Jacob Haggerty, Cody Hargraves, Saivon Thompson, Nico Perez, and John Paul Gonzales. Coaches were Tim Clark, James Ortiz, and David Reynolds.
