Williams makes impact on court

LHS recent graduate, SueRe”esa Williams, laced “em up for the last time in her storied high school career Thursday, July 14, at the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Basketball Game.
Williams, a three-year starter and two-year team captain of Lockhart High School was selected to the 4A/5A South All-Star Team.

aid Head Coach Dave Johnston. “She really worked hard and deserves all the acclaim.”
Williams was one of 24 graduating seniors in the state of Texas to make the All-Star Team of approximately 3,500 seniors throughout the state. The Basketball All-Star game was held at the Delco Center in Austin. The All-Star members practiced two days in preparation for the All-Star game.
“I really could see that the girls had a great time getting to know each other and were able to finish their career in a special way that only a select few can relate to,” added Johnston.
Williams was selected as a starter for the South All-Stars by her teammates and All-Star Coaches. The game was close throughout the first 10 minutes and Williams scored her first two points with a jumper off the glass (seven points for the game). The south fell behind by eight points to end the first half.
At the start of the second half, Williams nailed a deep three point shot from the corner to cut the deficit to five. A few minutes later, Williams got a steal and went coast to coast for a lay-up to tighten up the game. Both teams would battle back and forth throughout the remainder of the contest until the South pulled ahead for an eventual three-point victory.
A few of William”s awards while at Lockhart include: two Team All-District 02-03, one Team All-District 03-04, All-Central Texas Team – Honorable Mention 03-04, Offensive Player of the Year 04-05, 4A/5A T.G.C.A. South All-Star Team 04-05.
Williams scored 1,100 points in her career, passing the 1,000-point mark in a district game in Elgin.
“Sue really improved each year and it was fun as a coach to see that growth,” said Johnston. “Sue has such a great family, a lot of support and she is well-grounded. She has a great future ahead of her, (Sue will be a red-shirt Freshman at Tarleton State in the Fall) and we all wish her the best,” added Johnston.
