Lions stomp Johnston on field

The Lockhart Lions” varsity football team hosted the Johnston Rams on Friday, Sept. 9, at the Lion Stadium resulting in their first home victory of the season.
The Lions overpowered the Rams by the end of the second half giving them the 48-6 win.

ained with an average of 8.2 yards gained per play. By the end of the game, Lockhart completed 16 first downs while Johnston only completed 8 first downs.
Using a running game became beneficial for the Lions as they gained over half of their total yards rushing. For a team total, they rushed 294 yards on 45 carries with an average gain of 6.5 yards.
Quarterback Thomas Reppond let the Lions” passing game with 113 yards gained, then Alex Joseph stepped on the field to relieve Reppond gaining another 10 yards. The Lions totaled 123 passing yards gained. Reppond scored two touchdowns for the Lions, and Joseph scored one.
Carrying the ball across the goal line for the Lions were Alex Castillo with one touchdown, Dwin Roland with one touchdown, and Glendall Simmons with one touchdown.
Roland made the longest run during the game with 57 yards. He also completed the most rushing yards with 102 yards on four carries with an average of 25.5 yards gained per carry.
Casey Butler added 72 rushing yards to the team”s total from 15 carries with an average of 3.6 yards gained per carry.
Defensively, the Lions hustled on every play, and only allowed the Rams to gain 156 total yards. They put pressure on Johnston”s running game by giving up only 3.6 yards per play. Johnston totaled 80 yards with rushes.
With only eight out of 19 passed completion, the Lions” defense stopped the Rams” passing game to 76 yards with an average of 9.5 yards gained per play.
Johnston”s only touchdown was scored in the second quarter ending the half trailing 27-6.
The victory gives the Lions a 2-0 record.
The Lions will travel to Austin on Friday, Sept. 16, to meet Lake Travis on the field at 7:30 p.m. Lake Travis also has a 2-0 record with wins over Taylor High School, 36-7, and Anderson High School, 45-13.
This season, Lake Travis has made eight touchdowns from quarterback Todd Reesing, and has gained 496 yards from their passing game.
Statistically, Lake Travis” strongest receivers are Hunter Armstrong and Fred Robinson with two touchdowns each. Armstrong has totaled 165 yards this season, while Robinson has gained 164 yards.
Lake Travis” running game appears to be strong as well statistically. They have totaled 426 rushing yards with Reesing and Mike DeWitt contributing 299 yards out of the 426 totaled yards.
Defensively, Lake Travis has held their opponents to less than two touchdowns per game. They only allowed Taylor to gain 168 total yards and Anderson to gain 143 total yards with the passing game being the weakest from both opponents.

Lions’ J.V. Team
The Lions” junior varsity football team traveled to Austin on Thursday, Sept. 8, to meet the Johnston Rams on the field.
The game resulted in a shut out victory for the Lions, 48-0.
“This was a team victory for the Lions,” coach Brad Vickers said. “Each player contributed to the outcome by playing great technique and working on their fundamentals and individual skill. The team continues to work hard, and we are looking to improve everyday.”
Scoring for Lockhart was David Pozuc, Demitrius Joseph, Gaylon Hill, Edgar Silva, and Michael Harvey.
The win gives the Lions a 2-0 record.
Their next game will be against Lake Travis on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 7:00 p.m.

Lions” Freshman Team
The Lockhart Lion freshman “maroon” team moved their season record to 2-0 on Thursday night with 41-0 win over the Vista Ridge Rangers. The Lions scored on their first possession and never looked back.
Offensively, several Lion backs reached pay dirt. Justin Sanders, tailback, led the attack as he scored twice. Others reaching the end zone for the Lions were Jacob Castillo, Richard Ybarra, T. J. Terrazas and Marquese McKinney.
The Lions were 2-2 passing as Christian Estrada connected with Sanders for a 43-yard gain. Backup quarterback, John Henry Alvarez teamed with McKinney for a 38-yard touchdown pass. Colt Miranda connected on four of seven P.A.T. attempts. Zach DeLa Rosa scored on a two-point conversion.
The Lions” defense recorded their second shutout of the season as they dominated the contest. The Lions registered seven sacks in the contest. They also forced five Ranger turnovers. The defensive line was applauded for having a tremendous game. Russell Alvarez, Kory Robbins, Zach DeLa Rosa, Jacob Mirelez, Max Lindstrom, and Jacob Frey all recorded sacks in the contest.
The Lions will host the Lake Travis Cavaliers in their third game of the season next Thursday, Sept. 15, at 5:30 p.m. The white team will kickoff at 4:30 with the maroon team following.
