L.J.H. runners place first at meets
The Junior High Girls Cross Country team traveled to Wimberley for the Wimberley Texan Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10. The two-mile race started at 10:30 a.m.
The seventh and eighth grade teams ran together but were scored separately. “This was great for the team because it builds everyone”s confidence when they get to race with girls their own age,” said Coach She
lia West. “Both teams did an outstanding job.”
The 8th grade girl”s team won the meet with 48 points. The 7th grade totals where never announced, but they scored 53 points.
There were 12 8th-grade competitors in the race, and 16 7th-grade competitors.
The top five 7th-grade competitors were Yareli Sillero with a time of 16:27, Alysia Peralez with a time of 15:40, Karsyn Stark with a time of 15:44, Karen West with a time of 15:52, and Nicole Matteson with a time of 16:27.
The top five 8th-grade competitors were Jordyn Platt with a time of 13:51, Alex Maderal with a time of 14:26, Amanda Finn with a time of 14:56, Samantha Burklund with a time of 15:20, and Bianca Juarez with a time of 15:29.
The other teammates are Kelsey Daily, Klarissa Cardenas, Lauren Moore, Jade Ramirez, Jerika Euresti, Bethany Horton, Emily Flores, Victoria Espinosza, Adrianna Cruz, Cindy Sosa, Elora Chesnut, Laura Escobar, Juanita Craft, Olivia Woods, Alex Rodriguez, and Danielle Reynolds.
The Junior High Girls X-Country team traveled to Moulton on Saturday, Sept. 17, for the two-mile Moulton Invitational.
The team scored 31 points and took home the team championship plaque.
“The team really stepped up as a group and competed very well,” Coach West said. “We were missing some key runners, but that just was extra motivation for some of the girls to really prove to everyone what they were capable of.”
Jordyn Platt lead the last mile and won with a time of 13:12.
The top six girls after Jordyn were Alex Maderal with a time of 14:00, Bianca Juarez with a time of 14:11, Alysia Peralez with a time of 15:20, Karsyn Stark with a time of 15:22, Kelsey Daily with a time of 15:23, and Klarissa Cardenas with a time of 15:31.
Most of the girls improved their time by 0:20 to 1:20 seconds from meets earlier this year.
Other girls that ran in the race were Lauren Moore, Nicole Matteson, Jade Ramirez, Laura Escobar, Lilliana Llamas, Victoria Espinoza, Ashley Hagan, Rebecca Woody, Cindy Sosa, Elora Chesnut, Shelby Miranda, and Olivia Woods.
