Joseph Montgomery Reid, “Joe Monte,” a resident of Lockhart for most of his life, died of a heart attack on Oct. 30, 2005. He was born on March 1, 1955; he lived only slightly more than 50 years.
Joe Monte lost his father, Herbert Victor Reid in May of 1985 at the age of 61. He lost his mother, Mariellyn “Dink” Reid in May of 2002. He is survived by his brother, Drew R

eid, of Austin, his wife Liz, and their children, Caitlyn, Molly and Tucker.
Joe attended Lockhart schools from first grade through graduation from high school. In elementary school, he was part of a very close group of friends who still remain close and return to Lockhart High School reunions faithfully. As a freshman in high school, Joe, who was small-framed and of short stature was dubbed “Rock” by Coach Gerald Coppedge. His speed and dogged determination as point guard earned him his name. Many of his close friends still call him “Rock.”
Joe Monte went on to attend Southwest Texas State University, and for many years worked in real estate as a Broker, in mortgage lending, and in recent years, in the oil and gas business.
Joe was loved by many. He never married and had no children of his own, but his nieces and nephew and children of his friends were very special to him. Joe”s term of endearment for special ladies in his life was “Darlin.” He lived life on his own terms. As he once said to Santa Claus in a letter as a child, “I have been a good boy more than I have been bad.”
Graveside services for family and friends will be held at Lockhart Cemetery on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at 2:30 p.m.
