Lion baseball takes first district loss

The Lockhart Lion varsity baseball team traveled to Taylor for a highly competitive game against the Ducks that resulted in a 12-9 loss on Friday, March 31.

ey matched by also scoring two runs making the score 8-4.
In the fourth inning, the Ducks soared past the Lions by scoring another four runs. Lockhart couldn”t answer back against Taylor”s tight defense as they trailed 12-4 at the end of the sixth inning.
At the top of the seventh inning, the Lions showed determination for their desire to win by scoring five runs. The Ducks eventually shut them down with a third out to end the game 12-9.
Scoring for the Lions was Steve Gonzales with three runs including a homerun, a double and two RBIs; Josh Hazelett with one run including a single and two RBIs; Chris Dietz with one run including a triple and two RBIs; Dennis Ortiz with one run including a single and a RBI; Daniel Garza with one run; Steven Crider with one run; and Aaron Torres with one run.

Varsity vs. Connally
The Lockhart Lion varsity baseball team hosted Pflugerville Connally on Tuesday, March 28, for a victorious game, 3-1, against their strong district competitors.
Leading the Lions defensively was Michael Schulle at the mound and Dennis Ortiz catching at the plate. Schulle allowed only one run on two hits, three walks and 11 strikeouts during the seven-inning game. The win gives Schulle an overall record of 3-1 and 2-0 in district.
Leading offensively for the Lions was Steve Gonzales with two out of three hits including a double and a run scored. Schulle also stepped up offensively as he went one for three at bat. He had a home run and two RBI”s in the first inning to get Lockhart off to an early lead.
Josh Hazelett also went one-for-one at bat with a walk and a single in the fourth inning. Michael Wright showed great hustle in the fifth inning as he found himself on second base on a dropped fly ball by Connally”s shortstop. Wright went on to score the Lions third run of the game after Aaron Torres moved him to third on a nice sacrifice bunt, and then a pass ball brought Wright home.
