Alejandro Aguilar, 95, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday Oct. 23 at Seton Hays Hospital, in Kyle, surrounded by his family.

Alejandro was a self-taught master of many trades. The people of Lockhart new him as a builder, painter, welder, electrician, plumber, landscaper, pig farmer, cotton harvester, sheet metal worker and cabinet/furniture maker. Using these skills, he be

came the handyman for his beloved “Cocklebur” neighborhood.

Having his private pilot”s license, he enjoyed flying over the Lockhart area that he knew and loved.

His greatest pride was his military service. As a World War II veteran, he served in the First Battalion, Eighth Regiment of the United States Army as a Machine Gunner Infantryman in three campaigns: Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. His bravery earned him three bronze medals, a meritorious ribbon for combat action and a Good Conduct medal.
Alejandro was born in Aquitas, Mexico, in 1919, to Francisco and Crecensia (Marinez) Aguilar and traveled to the U.S. as a newborn. He married Anselma (Deleon) Aguilar (deceased) in 1936, and together they had six children: daughter Carmen (deceased); daughter Hortence (recently deceased), her sons Raymond (recently deceased) his wife, Lisa, and Raymond”s daughter, Karen; and Bob (wife Lisa) and their two children, Audrey and Joshua, and her daughter, Cristina Thomas (Felix) and Cristina”s daughters, Natalie, Charlie and Selma Ray; daughter Maria Alvarado and her son, Joseph; son, Ben (Sandra); son Gilbert, his wife Maria and her son and daughters, his children Gilbert Sam, Alex, Isabel, Sabina, Claudia and Ruthy (their mother Loida); son, Frank and his children Frank, Jr. and Laura; and son Peter (Adela) and their children Tina, Peter and Thomas.

The family gives special thanks to Alejandro”s caretaker, grandson Alex, who gave his grandfather daily care and attention.
The Rosary was recited on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. at DeLeon Funeral Home. Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 29 at St. Mary”s Catholic Church. Burial followed at St. Mary”s Cemetery.
