As the Lockhart Lions prepare to return to the field for baseball season, Head Coach Gene Salazar has announced that the Lions will start the season in a somewhat unique fashion.

Prior to the opening scrimmage against Austin Akins on Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Lions will host the first annual Alumni Game at Lion Field on Sat

urday, Feb. 13.

Salazar said he has gotten word from several “former” Lions who intend to participate in the game, graduates from the Class of 1990 – the Class of 2009. However, he said he has received interest from a number of players who have not turned in RSVP registrations, but said they would be on hand for the game.

In fact, he said, special guests and Lion alumni are expected to sing the National Anthem prior to the first game, and possibly to throw the first pitch.

Still, Salazar suggested there is room on the field for more participants, and Lions are invited to contact him via email at gene.salazar@lockhart.txed.net to secure their place in the lineup.

Baseball fans throughout the community are invited to the game, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. During the game, volunteers will be on hand to sell standard ballpark fare, hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and drinks. All proceeds from the concessions will be invested back into the Lockhart Lion Baseball program.

For information or to volunteer, contact Salazar at (512) 913-2582, or Dee Halliburton at (512) 497-1718.
