Bob Carroll Selby

Bob Selby, 72, of Dale, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008. He was born in Pampa, Texas, on March 14, 1936, to Robert Agee and Jewel Vesta (Montague) Selby.
He is survived by his wife, Anna C. Laurellyn of Dale; son, Kim Selby and wife, Wanda Carlisle-Selby, of Dale; son, Ian Selby and wife, Mandy Selby, of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Lanelle Selby Taylor and husband, Don

Taylor, of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Casey Carlisle and wife, Laura Carlisle, of Lockhart, Kariah Selby of Dale, and Kamron Selby of Dale; and great-grandchildren Destanie Carlisle and Reagan Carlisle of Lockhart.
Survivors also include brother-in-law, Geoff Brownlee and wife, Gayle Brownlee, of Acworth, Ga.; sister-in-law, Christine Baldock and husband, Tony Baldock, of Ireland; nieces, Christy Wise, Annette Archer, Noelle Talley and Tina Alabede; and nephews, David Brownlee and Clifford Baldock.
Bob was raised in Amarillo, Texas, where he graduated from Amarillo High School in 1954. While working at KGNC Radio in Amarillo, he earned his Associate of Arts degree in Radio/Television from Amarillo Junior College in 1956. He enrolled at the University of Houston during which he was a student assistant at KUHT-TV and earned a bachelor of science degree in Television and Technical Theater in 1958.
After graduating from the University of Houston, Bob returned to Amarillo where he worked for the Amarillo Public Schools as a Visual Aid Technician; the Amarillo Little Theater as a Lighting and Set Designer where he met Anna C. Laurellyn; and KVII-TV as a cameraman. In 1960, Bob and Anna were married.
In 1963, he moved to Austin, where he worked and taught in the Radio/Television/Film Department of the Communications Center at the University of Texas. In 1968, he became the Operations Manager at the PBS station, then KLRN-TV. He worked on numerous informative, entertaining and educational programs including the children’s bilingual educational series Carrascolendas. He was Lighting Director of the hit musical show Austin City Limits since its inaugural season in 1975.
In 1984, he moved to Forth Worth, where he started his own lighting business, Fiat Lux, and worked on a wide range of televised and non-televised productions in North America that included numerous talented entertainers while continuing free-lance as Lighting Director for Austin City Limits.
In 1999, he semi-retired to Caldwell County to be near family while continuing to work on Austin City Limits until full retirement in 2006.
Bob was a man of many talents. He was an accomplished leather worker, carpenter, mason, artist, and cook. He was also an avid photographer and had a great interest in electronic gadgetry. He enjoyed camping, barbeque and his many pets.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday May 23, 2008 at 6 p.m. in the McCurdy Funeral Home Chapel, 105 E. Pecan Street, Lockhart, Texas 78644, (512) 398-4791.
