In Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 4, 1921, Bryant H. Matthews “Matt” was born to Nora and Doug Matthews. On Nov. 29, 2006, he passed away peacefully at CTMC in San Marcos, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doug and Nora Matthews, Polly Matthews, his wife of 61 years, his second born son, Jim Dannel Matthews, and one granddaughter Donna K. Wheeler.

rvived by son Stan Matthews of Lockhart; daughter-in-law Kathy Matthews of Weatherford, Texas; daughter, Melissa J. King and husband Alan King of San Saba, Texas; daughter Sarah Cosper and husband Dwain Cosper of Baltimore, Md.; daughter Janet O. Matthews of Lockhart; and son Rusty Matthews and wife Kathy of Lockhart; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. After 26 years of military service, Matt retired out of Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin and opened up “Matt”s Bait & Supplies.” He happily served the fisherman of Lockhart and surrounding communities with shiny, live minnows, squiggly “yucky” worms, and crawfish that could pinch hard. “Mr. Matt” was known for his gruff, but loving ways; captured the hearts of the many patrons that passed through the doors of “Matt”s Bait & Supplies.” He was respected by many and loved by all and he will be surely missed by those who knew him.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006 at 3 p.m. Honorary Pallbearers serving were: Members of Tuesday Night Poker Club, Members of Medicare Corner, Members of the VFW and Jimmy Hernandez.
