Carlos B. Baker
Carlos Baker, 80, of Lockhart passed from this life on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at his home in Lockhart. He was born on Dec. 19, 1927 in the McMahan Community in eastern Caldwell County to John A. and Ora Garner Baker.
He lived his early years on the family farm, along with his parents, as a farmer and rancher. He attended Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, a
s well as serving in the Army after WWII for a brief time in Japan. In later years, he worked for the Texas State Comptrollers Office in San Antonio.
His love for travel took him to each of the 50 states and to several foreign countries, including Germany several times. His adventures always rendered wonderful memories as Carlos never met a stranger. He commented often that, “strangers were only friends he just had not had the chance to meet.”
Music brought much enjoyment to Carlos. Square dancing was an extra special passion of his for many years. He was a member of several square dance clubs and treasured each friendship he made through the years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John A and Ora Garner Baker of McMahan; his sisters, Lovena Owen of Lockhart and Mildred Farmer of San Marcos; and his first wife, Dorothy Clark Baker of San Antonio.
Carlos is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 14 years Theresia. She square danced into his life and heart and they were married on Feb. 14, 1995. Also surviving him are nieces, Jolene Crozier of Austin, Louise Lightsey and husband, Jerry, of Austin, Marilyn Gregory and husband, Bill, of Austin, and Joan Farmer of Houston; and nephew, Ted Farmer of Port Smith, Va. Bright rays of sunshine in his life were granddaughters, Katie and Kelsey McCormick, daughters of Janet and Richard McCormick of McMahan.
Carlos” family, friends, “Doe-Si-Doers” and many acquaintances will miss his wonderful laughter, warm smile and friendship.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at McCurdy Funeral Home. Interment followed at Jeffrey Cemetery in McMahan.
