Carlos W. McCarty, of Austin, died on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mac, as he was known to family and friends, was born July 25, 1918, to William Henry (Bill) and Sophia McCarty at his parent’s home, near Lockhart, Texas.

He graduated from Lockhart High School in 1937 and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tex

as in June of 1950.

Mac is survived by his wife, Ruth Evelyn Crane McCarty.

Mac had many jobs in his life but worked for more than 25 years at the Texas Health Department Water Quality Division, retiring in September 1983. He served in Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1945 and worked as an airplane mechanic stationed primarily in Australia. He was a member of the Baptist Church, the St. John’s Methodist Men’s Sunday school class, the Masonic Lodge, the 43rd Service Squadron, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, Austin Senior Activity Center Friday Dance Club and the Austin Waltz club.

A visitation was held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W. William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749, Interment followed at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Senior Activity Center (Lamar) Advisory Board at 2874 Shoal Crest Ave., Austin, TX 78705, (512) 474-5921.
